Riyadh metro line 4 to be extended to the airport

Riyadh: Riyadh metro line 4 is being extended to serve King Khalid International Airport (KKIA) in a move that will create a major transport corridor in the Saudi capital.

The FAST consortium is carrying out the work which includes construction of a 1.5km viaduct extension, a pair of new stations and elevated walkways to connect each to the airport terminals. Line 4 will be a key transport corridor within the Saudi capital, connecting the airport with the King Abdullah Financial District.

Led by Spanish construction company FCC and including Alstom, Samsung C&T, Strukton, Freyssinet Saudi Arabia, Atkins, Typsa and Sete, the consortium is also building lines 5 and 6 of the Riyadh metro.

The project has reached an advanced stage with testing of the automated trains for lines 4 and 6 having recently begun. FAST is one of three consortia contracted by Arriyadh Development Authority to design and build the Riyadh Metro Project, one of the biggest ongoing infrastructure projects in the Middle East.
